Sunday is Veterans Day. I want to thank all those who have served in th US Armed Forces as well as those who are serving today. But I especially want to thank my husband. He retired a year ago after spending 30 years in the US Army on active duty. He is my hero! He stepped up in the 1970's, during a time when we were still in Vietnam and popular opinion had turned against the soldier. He has served his country well and we are better for it. He has lead by example, mentored soldiers, lead them into combat, risking his life, not just in Iraq, but everyday. Everyday he could have been deployed again, sent into danger, everyday he was ready and would have accepted the challange, every day he would have laid down his life for you and me. Every day he stepped up, every day he volunteered to serve his country. That's what they all do, these veterans, these current soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines. Everyday they step up to take the responsibility of protecting this country, protecting you and me. Because of them the rest of us get to live our lives. Lives free of oppression, free from harm. I am in awe of these men and women who have chosen to serve, and I thank them with all my heart. I also want to thank my children, they too have this sense of service. They have lived the life of a wanderer, always moving, new homes, new schools, new friends. All 3 of them say they are glad to have been a military child. Our oldest son is a pilot in the US Air Force. He too stepped up. He volunteered for an assignment in Iraq. When people asked him why on earth he would have done that, his answer was..."Why not Me? If I didn't go someone else would have to go." He's back and safe, but ready to go again. He too is my hero.I thank God every day. I thank him for people who understand the world is bigger than the individual, for people who are willing to put themselves in harms way for me and you, for the people who love and support them. Thank you Veterans, you are all Heros. God Bless you.
